Philly Musette.....French Music/Philly Style
PHILLY MUSETTE is a music project headed by pianist/ accordionist Heath Allen and vocalist Phyllis Chapell. The group has been featured on Good Morning America and will perform every day for the 2011 Philadelphia Flower Show. Although it will be appearing as a quintet at the show, the size of the band can range from two musicians to six depending on the location and budget.
PHILLY MUSETTE is dedicated to performing French popular music from Plaisir d’Amour (1780) to present-day artists like Carla Bruni and Pink Martini. Special emphasis is given to songs made famous by Edith Piaf, Django Reinhardt (aka Gypsy jazz) and the French cinema of the 1960s such as “Umbrellas of Cherbourg” and “A Man and a Woman.” Included in the band’s repertoire are the French-inspired songs of Heath Allen. The band’s first CD has recently been released.
Philly Style means elegance, charm and maximum joie d’vivre. The music features plenty of 1930s swing, energetic waltzes and even some Latin-inspired rhythms. Whether you are listening or taking a spin on a dance floor, Philly Musette will put a smile on your face, evoking all the charms of your favorite Paris café.
